Your ingredient and your measure

The conversion accounts for the ingredient’s form and the capacity of your cup, glass or spoon.

Both directions, one tool

Grams to cups, spoons to grams and back again — switch direction without opening another calculator.

Precision starts with the details. And with Panmetry’s own method.

We cross-check official and independent data, examine meaningful discrepancies in detail and account for what affects the conversion:the type of ingredient, its form and your chosen kitchen measure.

Behind every Panmetry answer is a check of the data, not a blindly copied table. You get a result for your chosen ingredient and measure without having to compare reference guides yourself.

Choose the flour and the way you measure it

Select the flour used in the recipe, then the preparation and filling method. Panmetry keeps these physical differences in the calculation, so your cup, spoon or gram amount follows the choice you can reproduce in your kitchen.

For lightly spooned flour, transfer it gently into the measure and level the surface. For scooped flour, fill by dipping the measure into the flour and then level it. Sifted before measuring means sifting first, before the measured portion is filled.

Three filling methods, one clearly sized cup

Spooning, scooping and sifting change how flour fills the same volume. The comparison below keeps the flour type and US customary cup (236.588 mL) fixed while showing the separate filling methods.

Use the row that matches your recipe’s instruction. Sifting after a portion has been measured does not turn that portion into the sifted-before-measuring choice.

Flour cup fractions by filling method

All three columns of information appear as clearly named rows: lightly spooned and levelled, scooped and levelled, and sifted before measuring then lightly spooned and levelled. Each row is calculated for its own selected method.

This reference table keeps the US customary standard shown in its caption. Changing the calculator’s measures updates your result; it does not change the table.

Follow the flour named in the recipe

All-purpose wheat flour, wholemeal flour and non-wheat flours are distinct products. Choose an available form that matches your ingredient rather than carrying a cup value across to a different flour.

If your recipe already gives a gram weight alongside the cups, that is the most direct way to reproduce its intended portion. Use the converter to work with the ingredient, form and measure you have selected.

Measure a flour weight with your US cup

When a recipe gives 100, 150 or 200 g of flour and you need a cup measure, start with the weight. Keep the same all-purpose flour and filling method selected in the calculator.

The table below starts with grams and shows the cup portion for each named filling method. It complements the cup-fraction table above without making you leave the flour converter.

Questions about this conversion

Why does the filling method change the gram result?

Spooning, scooping and sifting change how flour fills the same volume. Panmetry’s method keeps those physical differences separate, so you can choose and repeat the intended filling method.

Should I sift the flour before or after measuring?

Follow the sequence in your recipe. Sifted before measuring is a distinct choice; choose it when that is the preparation you intend to repeat.
